Episode 5: I Underestimated the Harpy... Big Time | Let’s Play: EVE Online

While the Merlin was a good starter ship for me once I moved past the Ibis corvette, I had my sights set on the Caldari assault frigates which are much more advanced Tech 2 Merlin variants. After much thought and consideration, I decided to go with the Harpy which is focused on shield tanking and long-range sniping, though it does have the option of closed-ranged combat as well.

I was initially expecting the Harpy to perform only above-average better than the Merlin, but once I took it out for a field test against pirates in nearby star systems, it far surpassed my expectations. Even with skills that would augment its performance largely untrained at the time, the Harpy was able to soak up huge amounts of damage and dish out an impressive level of firepower.
